Let me try to explain:
THE WHY?!

From where I stand, most (if not all?!) babies are born in Bliss.  Most children retain this for “X-amount” of time until…what happens?  School?  Adulthood?  What’s the moment of shift, so often, from birth to corporate life?  From baby-bliss to the fear of retirement?  Does the whole life-experience have to be so seemingly deadening, dreadful, & disjointed in this way?

What I found one day on the BART train on my way to work in San Francisco, was a train-car full of what seemed like “half-dead” people.  As I looked around at everyone avoiding eye contact, I, as well, thought to myself, “WTF?!”.  aka:  What the F*#k?!  Where’s the Fun?!  Where’s the pulse?  Where’s the light?  Where’s the life-blood?

Nelson Mandela famously quoted Marianne Williamson in saying, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

My work (over-&-over), in ALL of my projects shares this sentiment (regardless of the “God”-bit, whatever that means to you).  It is a REMINDER of our pulse, of our innate connection to each other, to our power that sits (too often) dormant within us, to our brilliance that is (too often) dulled, to our deepest inklings & desires + aspirations that we (too often) tell to “be quiet”.  Why?  Because they don’t make money, they aren’t practical…BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.  And the truth in this rhetoric?  It’s programmed in us at a very young age, at a large, societal scale, with no ill-will from most of it’s sources.  But, I believe it’s time to REMEMBER the stoke that lies within us!  All of us!

So, again, my work, more-often-than-not, sets up an unexpected juxtaposed context to perhaps take you off guard for a minute, & make you question something about your “everyday”, & perhaps in addition Remember something vital inside yourself…a nudge, a suggestion, so-to-speak, to encourage you to take a BABY STEP towards ______________ (whatever you might be avoiding), which you know will bring more light & life to you!  I dare you to take a microscopic risk:  to pick up a paintbrush.  To sing.  To wear red.  To quit the job.  To take the job.  I dare you to say Yes, to say No.  I dare you to live, like you’re actually Living!  This is not a “gluttonous pleasure”, no, rather more of a Necessity; & not just for you but for all of us on the Planet!  And, more-often-than-not, that change/that risk/that desire you are longing to do, that is burning inside of you, is most often quite benign & harmless if you think of it, tho it might feel reckless to you, or perhaps even wrong.  But, again, what I want to ask is why?  What is keeping you?  What is stopping you?

And if I might be so daring as to make a large, gestural statement, from the most empathetic & heartfelt space,  I know all of the above (however it translates to you!) can feel Very scary, & Rock the Boat quite severely (even the mere thought of it!).  All this said, I promise (from what I’ve seen in my work & life!) that in the end, the benefits almost Always FAR outweigh the risks.  And, on top of this, I KNOW you have it in you.  We all do.  It’s our BIRTHRIGHT.  If you’re intrigued, do check out my past projects, social media platforms, & sign up for &/or peruse my current  VLOG for more.

Yebo!   XX.
